Your Questions Answered

What is income protection?

Income protection is an insurance policy that pays out a regular income if you are unable to work due to sickness or disability. It continues until you either return to paid work or retire.

Is accident & sickness cover the same as income protection?
Both policies will pay out if you are unable to work. Accident and sickness insurance offers a limited pay-out to cover things like mortgage or loan repayments for 12 -24 months maximum, whereas income protection pays around 65% of your pre-tax pay until you either return to work or retire.
Can I get life insurance with a pre-existing condition?
It is possible to get life insurance if you have a pre-existing medical condition, however, you may have to pay a higher premium because the provider might view you as having a higher risk of making a claim. In addition, they may request a medical and full access to your medical records.
How do any previous claims affect my application?

Insurers set their prices based on risk, so if you have previously made a claim, it’s possible that your premium will be higher than someone who has not claimed

Can I make changes to my policy once it has commenced?

Yes, you can make changes to your policy once it has commenced and this is something to discuss either with the insurer or your broker. Just remember that changes to your policy may affect your premium.

How long does a claim take to process?

The length of time to process depends on how quickly any medical evidence is received, however generally claims take around 4-6 weeks from start to finish.
